Help Required!!!!

Ok. My electricity bill came in. Its high. Damn high. Over $500. And my roomie will expect me to pay half.

The kicker is that I would use the dryer for an average of one hour a week. And she would use it for about three hours a week. Her boyfriend spends at least half of the nights of the week here. And he does shower and wash/dry his clothes here occasionally too.

Insert help in comments section....

500 BUCKS?????? WTF do you lot do?

I NEVER turn shit off, don't know where the remote is so leave the telly and stereo on (yes both) havent turned off my PC or laptop in oh i dont know, ever!, dont know if i even have a clothesline, hate the cold so run the heater even when i go to the store/friends/etc, have a boyfriend who likes to live in an igloo in summer, and a child who takes after me, and we still only rack up $250 at the most.

Im sorry, cant halp, you are a lost cause.

Would you like a drink? I probably left the fridge door open so its no drama to grab one for you.....

Can you not talk to her about her boyfriend's usage?

I am afraid to tell you - that you are prolly just going to have to suck it up for this bill..

But use this shocker to plan for the future.. turn stuff off at the power point when you can etc.. and then if the boyfriend continues to stay over frequently next month - say something to her about how it impacts on the bills and stuff..

Sorry - but I think you are going to have to wear this one..

I think you should sell the rampant rabbit.. or

buy a generator and make your own electricity!

I've ben told I can cut my electricty bills...
Apparently there is a button for the immersion heater.

Apparently, I can actually switch it off when I'm not using hot water...

I didn't know that.

I'm afraid I'm going to have to side with Kimba here, this time around you may just have to suck it up, before the next bill arrives though I'd look into that massive energy leak you have, or look for a more competitive energy provider $500 is fucking insane!

Argh! This would annoy me too. I guess it's the down side of sharing with a stranger - and it doesn't seem fair. Bloody hell, $500 bucks is a lot.

Pay the half but definitely say something about this. :)

My utilities company does free usage audits that inform customers of what they are doing to use power and, most importantly, what theycan do to save power—and money. Does your provider offer a similar service? It is really worth it: I reduced my electricity consumption by about 35% just by following the advice from the audit.

ohhh... I like sometimes saintly nick's idea.

I may look into that...

Try saying, 'Listen up, Fuckwad...I'm not paying a half-share for utilities when there are two-and-a-half people using them.'
Either that or get a 'Welcome' tattoo on your forehead...

Fuck, that's a big bill. I'm very conserative with mine and it's about $100 per three months!

I have to agree with fingers.... but a polite way of saying it might be 'we need to split it in thirds to cover your boyfriend's use'

if she objects, then she pays both her share, and his.

And phish, seriously, talk to her about saving some energy... and you're NOT to be the free ride of the boyfriend.....

Kimba is probably right, flatmate hell, but let her know in the future you're paying a third, and try Nick's suggestion as well. Good luck.

OK...Someone is stealing your power....I'd check the old guy next door lol. Mine is about $180 for 3 mths and that is only because I became lazy and use the dryer for an hr a week

Maybe suggest a 60%-40% split instead since her BF is there often too and using some of that power. If you're feeling really lucky, maybe a 65%-35% split...

i wouldn't be financially supporting a guy who doesn't even fuck me.

uuuuh naaah.

also, you need to tell these people the impact they are having on the environment. if they ever plan on breeding, it will be their children who will be suffering the consequence of irresponsible electricity wasting now.

appliances use as much energy on standby as they do whilst being used. the world has curled up, and it's starting to die, and people who don't care about that are ignorant morons and they make me choke with disgust!!!

go green bitches!

I had a flatmate that used the drier all the time, lazy fuck.
I unscrewed the motor power thus disabling the power forcing her to use the cloths line like everyone else.

I eventually put her ret up to f shags a week insteed of just two.

Lots of sensible solutions have been provided here. Time for a stupid one.

Move the dryer into your bedroom so your housemate can't use it.

I had a house mate do that - it started a unholy war between the three of us, only ended when the bitch moved out.

Sex toys may use alot of energy? Right? Oh, I dunno...what I'd do is tell the b/f to phuck right off... bluddy rude!

I think I've got his or her sister living in my house at the moment---no rent, eats my food, smokes my cigarettes, doesnt do housework, uses my car and dries all of her clothes in the dryer----
And no sex
Oh, and no money and would be on the streets if she wasnt here---and makes me feel likes its a privilege to have her here

Ugh, I've been through this bullshit before when I lived with two other girls and their respective boyfriends stayed over most nights of the week. Fuck that, don't be oppressed because you are single - you tell your roomie what you have just told us, and then ask her to pay more. Maybe a $200 / $300 breakdown is more fair? And if she complains suggest that her boyfriend pay the extra $50. Well, that's what I think anyway...

to me it sounds like you pay a third, she pays a third and her BF should pay a third...
