Well it finally happened. I got some time off work. Its a holiday. I had nothing planned. I'm too broke to go away. Fortunately for me I live in one of the greatest cities of the world. And I have yet to explore it. So my holiday plans include
posibly the greatest aquarium I've ever seen.
educational trips
walks
relaxation
exploration
scenic travel routes
maybe a cruise
and just doing my own thing!
If any Sydneysiders have any ideas for a home holiday I'd love to hear them. Its amazing what you can find so close to home.

I have long been in love with all things Aussie! If I had a chance to visit Sydney on my list of things to do would be a trip to the botanical gardens, royal national park, and the museum of contemporary art to name a few.Whatever you decide have a great time and take lots of pictures for us ot see!
I have no ideas.
I'm not a Sydneysider. ;)
Steve~
Go to Manly via the Ferry, it is awesome!! Hubby and I did all you have listed in one weekend in October 2005, it was fabulous. POur best friends live in Banksia, so we commuted by train, then ferry and by bus, but, we also walked alot, and got to see right along George Street, all them marvelous shops!!!
My fav place in town is the Circular Quay, eating seafood, oh yeah!!!
Oh, and the Rocks Market is awesome too
relax and enjoy! that's my advice- just enjoy no matter what you do! luv ya!
Treat yourself to one night in a hotel to make you feel like you're really on holidays. ;)
Whatever you do, have fun!
Four years in Sydney and I only just did the Botanical Gardens and Mrs Macquarie's Chair. Simply beautiful. Go at dusk to catch the thousands of bats that come out to play.
If you can afford it, do the Harbour Bridge climb, also at dusk. It's strenuous activity but the views are more than worth it.
Catch a show at the Opera House. It doesn't have to be a big production. Plenty of smaller edgy shows get a run there too.
Visit the Museum of Contemporary Art. Always something interesting to see and best of all, it's free.
Catch a ferry to Manly - no need to stay in Manly, it's a craphole - so come straight back. But the harbour ride on the Ferry is worth the trip.
Grab a pie and mash at Harry's Cafe de Wheels in Wooloomooloo or Haymarket. $4.95 and you'll be hooked. Unless you're vegetarian in which case I wouldn't bother.
Take a train - or drive - to the Blue Mountains. Skip Katoomba but check out the town just before, Leura.
Don't go anywhere near Bondi Beach... ever. Do however, check out Bronte or Coogee or Tamarama.
Catch a game of football (the AFL kind, not the rugby kind) in winter at the SCG. The atmosphere in the stadium of a one-team town is worth the price of admission.
Prop up the bar at any of Sydney's old pubs. They are literally everywhere, and the older ones especially, i.e. the ones that have escaped tarting up so far, are full of character and atmosphere. Also, most of the oldies have a $5 steak night - again only if you're not a vego - that represents good value and the pubs on $5 steak night are usually full of characters who love a chat.
That's all I can think of right now. Enjoy.
