Is this not a face only a mother could love?

This is a recently fledged cockatoo. On my balcony. I gave the poor bugger a but of bread for him to nom on. And he seemed to enjoy it. This is what he'll look like when he grows up. Truly magnificent birds. But butt ugly chicks.

I finally got my b'day pressie from mum. It took long enough to get here! I had to get it redirected and then had to wait a week until I could pick it up. Inside I found a gorgeous silver bangle and this...

See where I get my sense of humour from? And also my tardiness...

I lost 0.9kg (2lb) last week.

They really are ugly-cute when they're shedding, aren't they?

Nothing wrong with getting a present to someone late... it's the thought that counts, right? At least that's what I keep telling myself every time I mail a late card or gift...

Phish babes...who gave you the bird?

No matter...it's a cute birdie. I think that and I'm not it's mother. :)

My bird (Bandit) pasted away a few years ago...he was fun and used to dance back and forth on his perch when he wanted attention.

I love your mom...she's sounds like lots of fun. hehehe.
Ciao babes.

I love the card from your mum, she is a genius like me, I do things like that, mix words up to suit individuality :)
Happy Birthday to you love :)

Ahh, sorry to say this but it's not a fledgling. I'm pretty sure it's dying of PBFD.

That bird gives me hope...maybe I'm still in the chickling stage??

You're mum is funny (and whip smart at the scrabble!) you definitely get it from her :)

just read unique_stephen's comment.

Ah, perhaps the bird is not the bearer of hope as I had counted on...

Recently fledged cockatoo!!!???

Is this photo recent?
This is not a recently fledged cockatoo, cockatoo chicks come out of the nest in summer and have all their feathers by winter.
He is either someones old pet who has escaped or an old wild bird who is on his last legs or has Psittacine Beak and Feather Disease
(PBFD)
You can tell by the photo that he is an adult, he has all his primary feathers.

that bird was just flying around wild? aren't those supposed to be caged birds as in people's pet? is this a cultural thing I'm missing???

and i think the card is a hoot!
