ohmygodOhMyGodOHMYGOD!!!

Matchbox twenty has released a new song! I am aware that it happened last week. I did hear it on the radio and I thought to myself 'that sounds like Rob Thomas.' I heard it on the radio three times today. I normally hate that, but seriously, its MB20! I can (literally) listen to them all day.

Matchbox 20 were my very first album. It was love at first listen. I've never not loved one of their songs. There are some that I love more than others. But none that I just plain like. So when I heard that they were going to be playing the new song I dropped what I was doing and went and stared at the radio.

It was so much to take in. Trying to listen to the lyrics and the melody at the same time. Trying to memorise them, the feel of how the music washed over my soul. I could feel faint vibrations through my fingertips as they rested on the bench near the radio.

This new song has an older feel to it. Its new. But when I listen to it, it feels like I'm listening to their first album. But its new as well. Its calming but energizing too. Quite the pleasurable paradox.

Bring on October 2nd.

Lyrics and video below.

*****************

I'm waking up at the start of the end of the world,
But its feeling just like every morning before,
Now I wonder what my life is going to mean if it's gone,
The cars are moving like a half a mile an hour and I
Started staring at the passengers who're waving goodbye
Can you tell me what was ever really special about me all this time?

But I believe the world is burning to the ground
Oh well I guess we're gonna find out
Let's see how far we've come
Let's see how far we've come
Well I, believe, it all, is coming to an end
Oh well, I guess, we're gonna pretend,
Let's see how far we've come
Let's see how far we've come

I think it turned ten o'clock but I don't really know
Then I can't remember caring for an hour or so
Started crying and I couldn't stop myself
I started running but there's no where to run to
I sat down on the street and took a look at myself
Said where you going man you know the world is headed for hell
Say your goodbyes if you've got someone you can say goodbye to

I believe the world is burning to the ground
Oh well i guess we're gonna find out
Let's see how far we've come
Let's see how far we've come
Well I, believe, it all, is coming to an end
Oh well, I guess, we're gonna pretend,
Let's see how far we've come
Let's see how far we've come

Its gone gone baby its all gone
There is no one on the corner and there's no one at home
It was cool cool, it was just all cool
Now it's over for me and it's over for you
Well its gone gone baby its all gone
There is no one on the corner and there's no one at home
Well it was cool cool, it was just all cool
Now it's over for me and it's over for you

But I believe the world is burning to the ground
Oh well I guess we're gonna find out
Let's see how far we've come
Let's see how far we've come
Well I, believe, it all, is coming to an end
Oh well, I guess, we're gonna pretend,
Let's see how far we've come
Let's see how far we've come
Let's see how far we've come
Let's see how far we've come
Let's see how far we've come
Let's see how far we've come
Let's see how far we've come
Let's see how far we've come
Let's see how far we've come

I saw MB 20 in concert years and years ago and loved it. I never really took to Rob Thomas as a solo singer - beats me, but he didn't do it for me.

I'll be listening for the song! Thanks for the tip!

I am sorry to admit, I don't know of them.
I am going off to check my Singles guide now, but it is a bit out of date.

Smack - I love his voice, but yes, his music was a bit different as a solo.

Ingsoc - you must be living under a rock. A big one. Maybe even uluru. They sang push, 3am and bright lights. You have to have heard of them.

Yeah, not to mention Wangaratta Wahine. That was a big one for them.
Nah, just kidding Phishez! Isn't it great when a band puts someting out and it's THEM you can hear in the new stuff? Relish it.

Phis...yeah Rob Thomas rocks. I love his voice, solo or with MB20.

You ever wonder why they picked Match Box 20 as their band name?

Hey do you like "Orson"...now they rock. I love their song "No Tomorrow."

Oh and I have to mention Amy Winehouse, the babes is so me with her songs "F me pumps" and Me and Mr. Jones. Later babes.

They were your first? Damn, but I'm old.

I'm off to see Snow Patrol on Friday - were they good?

Lad - you really threw me with that comment. I grew up near a small town called Wangaratta.

Ingsoc - you have already heard of them. You probably just haven't realised.

SZJ - how hott is RT in a pair of spray on jeans (a la Lonely No More clip)?

Grunt - You tell me, they don't get down here til September.

they had one song I used to play over and over again but I can't remember what it was and I lost my matchbox20 CD ! It used to break my heart.

I'm glad you got your musical heros back

I have heard of them and even new this groupie that knew him inside and out, shhhh she had pictures. So in reality doing her means that you were doing all the guys from M20.....ewwww nasty man but!

Sorry Phish. There was a faux 1930s-style band called the Captain Matchbox Whoopee Band that had a novelty-song hit with Wangaratta Wahine in 1975. When Matchbox 20 became well-known, smartarses would intentionally confuse the two groups.

Betty - I copy all of my music to my compy, then burn the ones I want to listen to in the car/stereo and keep the originals in their cases.

Honk - I just don't understand men who share women. How do they decide who goes first? Eww.

Lad - ahhh. Thanks for explaining.
